Owners who rent out their homes and commercial properties can change the name of their electrical accounts to their tenants’ names by conducting a Change of Tenancy (COT) throughout the rental period to assist maintain the accounts organised and safeguard their rights as landlords.

Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan, Tenaga Nasional Bhd’s chief retail officer, stated that shifting the account owner’s name to the tenants lets the latter to be entirely liable for their electricity consumption and bill payment.

“Through the myTNB application and site, property owners can still track tenants’ monthly payment and usage patterns over time.”

“TNB makes it simple for consumers to apply for COT by visiting the local Kedai Tenaga or through the myTNB portal at www.mytnb.com.my,” he added in a statement.

Meanwhile, Megat claimed the name change option decreases the possibility of owners having to settle renters’ defaulted bill payments when TNB’s installation and meter tampering by bitcoin cryptocurrency operators are discovered.

Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief retail officer Datuk Megat Jalaluddin Megat Hassan said changing the name of the account owner to the tenants allows the latter to be fully responsible for their electricity consumption and bill payment.

“Premise owners can still monitor tenants’ monthly payment and usage patterns over time through the myTNB application and portal.

“TNB makes it easy for customers to apply for COT on the myTNB portal at www.mytnb.com.my or by visiting the nearest Kedai Tenaga,” he said in a statement on Sunday (Jan 9).

Meanwhile, on the complaints on premise owners burdened with tenants’ bills upon discovery of TNB’s installation and meter tampering by bitcoin cryptocurrency operators, Megat said the name change option reduces the risk of owners having to settle tenants’ defaulted bill payments.

“We are always open to meeting our customers for further clarification and discussion,” he added.
